Opportunities to take animal pictures are everywhere. Domestic farm animals are enjoyable to watch, easy to photograph, and there are a multiple of uses for photos of pigs, cows, horses, ducks, and chickens.
Well-taken pictures of livestock can be used number of purposes, which include catalogs, posters, auction brochures, calendars, pamphlets, books, greeting cards, and even advertisements. Great animal photos can even be a good source of income for an enterprising photographer.
When you are taking pictures of farm animals, whether they are your own, or whether you're just visiting a local farm, it is worth keeping in mind some pointers on how to take great pictures of these animals.
Be Prepared
A major factor in making great livestock photos is proper preparation. This means that you should be aware of the behavior of certain animals and therefore can anticipate the movements they are likely to make when you are taking your shots. Animals have different reactions to photo shoots, and you should have knowledge of these prior to the actual shoot. Animals may be startled, angered, or frightened by your equipment and flashes. You can research your information through books or over the Internet. and use the results of your research as your background for taking pictures of your farm animals.
With the information you have gathered, you can then determine the timing of your photo shoots, and you can even determine the kind of lighting as well as shooting angles that you would like to use for your shoot.
Natural is Best
When taking photographs of animals, especially when shooting for auction brochures or sales catalogs, it is best to showcase these animals in their natural habitat, without any adornments or decorations.
To get quality animal photos, make sure that the animal has proper grooming and that the animal is clean and presentable. You should also seriously consider a good background to enhance the image of the animal, like choosing an open field instead of a cluttered barn for the picture background. Another important aspect is the positioning of the animal for the picture. The animal should appear alert and posed on the side or a three-quarters view in order to maximize the image of the animal being photographed.
Be Patient
Another important phase to photographing animals is exercising patience. As it is common knowledge that animals can very well be uncooperative during a photo shoot, it is vital to wait to get to that proper timing where you can have that winning shot for yourself.
Practice First
Practice makes perfect - and this also holds true in photographing farm animals. Prior to actually doing the shoot, it is very useful to do some practice sessions first. Visit a local farm, ranch, or zoo, first. It may be very helpful for your practice sessions to acquaint yourself with the behavior of different animals, take notes, and make good shoots with them.
Have Good Equipment
Using the appropriate camera equipment and accessories is also very important to photographing animals. You may have the need for a telephoto lens to capture long-range shots from delicate and sensitive animals. Other specialty lenses may also be used to create masterful shots.
Use Safety Measures
Finally, just like in all other endeavors, safety should take priority over any photographing activities. There is absolutely no shot worth taking too much risk with your life, and with the unpredictability of most animals, even a bright flash could cause panic.
Follow these tips when photographing farm animals. Do your research and preparation use good equipment, and follow safety common sense and you'll soon have an array of useful animal photos, good ones at that!

This implies, however, a careful attention on the part of the mother to her own health; for that of her child is essentially dependent upon it. Healthy, nourishing, and digestible milk can be procured only from a healthy parent; and it is against common sense to expect that, if a mother impairs her health and digestion by improper diet, neglect of exercise, and impure air, she can, nevertheless, provide as wholesome and uncontaminated a fluid for her child, as if she were diligently attentive to these important points. Every instance of indisposition in the nurse is liable to affect the infant.
And this leads me to observe, that it is a common mistake to suppose that, because a woman is nursing, she ought therefore to live very fully, and to add an allowance of wine, porter, or other fermented liquor, to her usual diet. The only result of this plan is, to cause an unnatural degree of fulness in the system, which places the nurse on the brink of disease, and which of itself frequently puts a stop to the secretion of the milk, instead of increasing it. The right plan of proceeding is plain enough; only let attention be paid to the ordinary laws of health, and the mother, if she have a sound constitution, will make a better nurse than by any foolish deviation founded on ignorance and caprice.
The following case proves the correctness of this statement:
A young lady, confined with her first child, left the lying-in room at the expiration of the third week, a good nurse, and in perfect health. She had had some slight trouble with her nipples, but this was soon overcome.
The porter system was now commenced, and from a pint to a pint and a half of this beverage was taken in the four and twenty hours. This was resorted to, not because there was any deficiency in the supply of milk, for it was ample, and the infant thriving upon it; but because, having become a nurse, she was told that it was usual and necessary, and that without it her milk and strength would ere long fail.
After this plan had been followed for a few days, the mother became drowsy and disposed to sleep in the daytime; and headach, thirst, a hot skin, in fact, fever supervened; the milk diminished in quantity, and, for the first time, the stomach and bowels of the infant became disordered. The porter was ordered to be left off; remedial measures were prescribed; and all symptoms, both in parent and child, were after a while removed, and health restored.
Having been accustomed, prior to becoming a mother, to take a glass or two of wine, and occasionally a tumbler of table beer, she was advised to follow precisely her former dietetic plan, but with the addition of half a pint of barley-milk morning and night. Both parent and child continued in excellent health during the remaining period of suckling, and the latter did not taste artificial food until the ninth month, the parent's milk being all-sufficient for its wants.
No one can doubt that the porter was in this case the source of the mischief. The patient had gone into the lying-in-room in full health, had had a good time, and came out from her chamber (comparatively) as strong as she entered it. Her constitution had not been previously worn down by repeated child-bearing and nursing, she had an ample supply of milk, and was fully capable, therefore, of performing the duties which now devolved upon her, without resorting to any unusual stimulant or support. Her previous habits were totally at variance with the plan which was adopted; her system became too full, disease was produced, and the result experienced was nothing more than what might be expected.
The plan to be followed for the first six months. Until the breast- milk is fully established, which may not be until the second or third day subsequent to delivery (almost invariably so in a first confinement), the infant must be fed upon a little thin gruel, or upon one third water and two thirds milk, sweetened with loaf sugar.
After this time it must obtain its nourishment from the breast alone, and for a week or ten days the appetite of the infant must be the mother's guide, as to the frequency in offering the breast. The stomach at birth is feeble, and as yet unaccustomed to food; its wants, therefore, are easily satisfied, but they are frequently renewed. An interval, however, sufficient for digesting the little swallowed, is obtained before the appetite again revives, and a fresh supply is demanded.
At the expiration of a week or so it is essentially necessary, and with some children this may be done with safety from the first day of suckling, to nurse the infant at regular intervals of three or four hours, day and night. This allows sufficient time for each meal to be digested, and tends to keep the bowels of the child in order. Such regularity, moreover, will do much to obviate fretfulness, and that constant cry, which seems as if it could be allayed only by constantly putting the child to the breast. A young mother very frequently runs into a serious error in this particular, considering every expression of uneasiness as an indication of appetite, and whenever the infant cries offering it the breast, although ten minutes may not have elapsed since its last meal. This is an injurious and even dangerous practice, for, by overloading the stomach, the food remains undigested, the child's bowels are always out of order, it soon becomes restless and feverish, and is, perhaps, eventually lost; when, by simply attending to the above rules of nursing, the infant might have become healthy and vigorous.
For the same reason, the infant that sleeps with its parent must not be allowed to have the nipple remaining in its mouth all night. If nursed as suggested, it will be found to awaken, as the hour for its meal approaches, with great regularity. In reference to night-nursing, I would suggest suckling the babe as late as ten o'clock p. m., and not putting it to the breast again until five o'clock the next morning. Many mothers have adopted this hint, with great advantage to their own health, and without the slightest detriment to that of the child. With the latter it soon becomes a habit; to induce it, however, it must be taught early.
The foregoing plan, and without variation, must be pursued to the sixth month.
After the sixth month to the time of weaning, if the parent has a large supply of good and nourishing milk, and her child is healthy and evidently flourishing upon it, no change in its diet ought to be made. If otherwise, however, (and this will but too frequently be the case, even before the sixth month) the child may be fed twice in the course of the day, and that kind of food chosen which, after a little trial, is found to agree best.

Teddy Bear Collecting
This article is dedicated to the Teddy Bear, a great and extremely loyal friend to man. Like man, the teddy bear is a great explorer and a lover of adventures. The teddy bear also, like man, has had his fair share of being in the limelight both on our screens and as a great and unforgettable character in books.
Since 1907, when the Thomas A. Edison Co. made The Teddy Bears, the first moving picture about teddy bears, films and television have been making the teddy bear famous on screen. One of the very first teddy bears to appear on british television was a glove puppet teddy bear called Sooty. In 1948, an amateur magician called Harry Corbett bought a teddy bear glove puppet whilst holidaying in Blackpool, England with his family. The puppet was bought originally just to entertain his children and they named the puppet simply 'Teddy', however, Corbett then started to use him as part of his magic act. Whilst appearing on a talent show called Talent Night in 1952, Corbett and his glove puppet were spotted by the producers of the chilren's series Saturday Special. Teddy prompty received a make-over - his nose and his ears were blackened - and his name was then changed to 'Sooty'. In 1955, Sooty was given his own show called The Sooty Show. Later on he was joined by his best pal 'Sweep' and his girlfriend (who happened to be a Panda) called 'Soo'. Strangely Sooty and Soo were never allowed to touch on television.
Folllowing the death of Harry Corbett in 1975, his son Matthew took over, but in 1996, Sooty, Sweep and Soo was sold for £1.4 million to the merchant bankers, Guinness Mahon who were intent on increasing Sooty's audience, so hopefully, fingers crossed, at some time, once again, we may just see a lot more of him.
There was also the lovely little Chiltern Teddy Bear who was propelled into stardom in 1965, his name was Teddy Edward. This gorgeous little teddy bear travelled the world for the BBC's famous children's programme, Watch With Mother. Teddy Edward was purposely never dressed, although when he ventured into the mountains of Nepal, he wore a beautiful (and now famous) Napalese coat, which was given to him by his friend Domtuk (who was a Panda), he too wore a coat which was very similar to Teddy Edward's.
In December 1996, Teddy Edward was sold at the auction house Christie's in London to a Yoshihiro Sekiguchi, President of the Japanese toy company Sun Arrow. Teddy Edward fetched the staggering sum of £34,500. He is now on display in one of his teddy bear museums in Japan.
Another very famous T.V. bear was Andy Pandy's friend 'Teddy', a very handsome Chad Valley Teddy Bear. Teddy was quiet, charming and was best friend to Andy Pandy and Looby Loo.
Teddy Bears such as Paddington Bear, although famous for television, originally made their names in the literary world. It was Christmas Eve in 1956 when a young cameraman called Michael Bond was doing some last minute christmas shopping. He was desperately looking for a christmas present for his wife when, whilst stopping at a famous London store, noticed a teddy bear looking at him. He was the only teddy bear who hadn't been sold. Hence, his wife received a teddy bear for Christmas that year. The little bear was named 'Paddington' as Michael and his wife were living very close to the famous Paddington Station at the time. Just a few days later, Michael Bond was simply inspired to write a story about this teddy bear and once the book was published, it became an instant success. The book has now been translated into at least thirty different languages and was later followed up by even more novels, short stories and dozens and dozens of picture books, then of course, the television animation. Very soon Paddington Bear became practically a household name, becoming very famous too for wearing wellington boots and a duffle coat. There is loads of childrens clothes and various pieces of merchandise the whole world over with Paddington Bear on. In Paddington Station, London, there is a special Paddington Bear stand, dedicated especially to him.
Then we have the very famous Rupert Bear and also Winnie the Pooh who started their lives in the literary world and went on to become stars of screen and in Winnie's case, his adventures were transformed into a series of feature length cartoons by Walt Disney Studios from 1966 on.
We have also seen the absolutely adorable Aloysius teddy bear, star of the Brideshead Revisited series and fallen in love with him.
Then we have the famous teddy bears whose claim to fame is accompanying their keepers on dangerous activites and adventures such as Mr Whoppit, the teddy bear who accompanied Donald Campbell (the British car and speedboat enthusiast). Together Campbell and Whoppit broke the water-speed record seven times, reaching 444.7 kph (276.3 mph) in Bluebird on Lake Dumbleyung, Australia in 1964. That very same year they also broke the land-speed record at Lake Eyre Salt flats, Australia with 648.7 kph (403.1mph). Together they survived several major crashes but on the 4 January 1967 Donald Campbell's luck ran out. On Consiton Water in England's Lake District, they both tried for a new world record with an outward run of 466.7 kph (290 mph). Tragedy struck when Bluebird's nose lifted and Campbell and Whoppit were plunged into the depths at 482.8 kph (300 mph). Mr Whoppit survived, he floated to the surface a few minutes after the impact, it is said he became buoyant due to his kapok stuffing. Campbell's daughter, Gina, carried on with the record breaking attempts and Mr. Whoppit joined her.
However, these are just a handful of famous bears from the past and from the present, although, as all teddy bear lovers know, there are many teddy bears who are heroic and very special in their own right, who no-one has ever heard of and it is to these wonderful old friends that we take our hats off to, and we would just finish this article by saying, Long May They Reign......

Grizzly bears or an average bear can knock down trees with one strike or one push using their weight. Cougars are no match for them. You think a mere actor can beat up a grizzly? There's one video where a baby black bear gets pissed of because it gets attacked by a tiger and chases it away and it's even smaller than a grizzly.

How to Take Care of a New Puppy
Puppy training actually begins the moment you bring a new puppy into your home. The first week is very important. Everyone in the family needs to be on the same page when it comes to the routine, responsibility and rules that will be set for the newest member of the family. This is also a good time to be thinking about pet insurance, as small puppies have yet to develop a strong immune system or sense of danger, and the new environment could contain many potential hazards, most of which could seem perfectly harmless! The first few days in your puppy’s new home are extremely important and will be a time of much excitement and joy. However, remember your new puppy has just been taken away from the only place he has ever known and is very vulnerable and impressionable. You have to set up a routine and rules from the start. Puppies are very smart and will learn very quickly.
First you need to set up a special place for the newest member of your home. Puppies need security and a set routine. Set up a small room to be their own special safe place for the next couple of weeks or so. Try playing with your puppy quietly and gently. If your pup seems to be tired, leave him alone in his special place and let him sleep. Puppies are like babies, they need lots of sleep. Never hit your puppy. They don’t mean to be bad or misbehave- they are just doing what comes naturally to them. Show the pup what kind of behavior you want and teach him how to play with his toys. Make sure that you show him how happy you are that he is chewing on his toys and not your furniture.
We all know that puppies are chewing machines. That is why it is important to have plenty of chew toys around for them to use. When you see the pup start to chew on your furniture or a shoe, immediately grab one of their toys and get the pup’s attention. When the pup starts to play and chew on its toy make sure to praise them profusely. This shows them that you are happy with what they are doing. This shows them that when they do certain things which make you happy they will receive attention. You want to reward the good behavior and not the bad.
Puppies have to be watched over very closely for the first few days until they figure out what their boundaries are. They have to be shown what is acceptable to be chewed on and what is not. They are just doing what comes naturally and don’t know any better. If you are not available to watch over them make sure they don’t have access to places where they can get into trouble. This is where a baby gate can come in handy if you want the pup to be around the family during the day but out of harm’s way.
Routines are especially important to establish with your puppy. Having a set routine gives your puppy security and helps to keep him calm and not fearful. If you and other family members will be gone during the day or on certain nights you need to get the pup accustomed to being alone. Every time the puppy whines resist the urge to comfort him.
One of the first things to take care of after the puppy is settled into its new home is to make an appointment with your veterinarian. Make sure to do this right away and to set up the schedule for vaccinations. Vaccinations are very important because puppies are susceptible to many canine diseases. Take out a comprehensive pet insurance policy too, as vet’s bills for unexpected mishaps and illnesses can be very expensive.
If you establish a routine and rules from the start, everyone, including your puppy, will be able to form a bond that will last a lifetime. Two people have a six week old baby and puppy{puppy way to young to be away from momma}?
The puppy try to nurse chews baby's toes off{bitting on the nipple will get the milk going in momma dog.} The two people hear nothing, remenber they are in the same room. Puppy gets put to sleep. Is this right, shouldn't the people be punish and both the dog and baby removed to some where better?
Why do people beleive that tasting blood makes a dog mean. I have fed my dogs on raw meat never have I had one turn. Remenber dogs are geared to eat raw meat.
Hunting dogs taste blood all the time, I have seen very few say bird dogs go nuts because of it.
I have heard that a judge is going to say if the puppy is going to be put down. I guess there was a lot of people pissed off and a order was given not to kill the puppy. They could had taken its head to test the bgrain for rabies.Babies and puppies can mix, I raised children & dogs at the same time without issue. However....my babies were never left unattended with the dogs of any age.
It is a shame that a child's been maimed for life and a puppy was killed due to the [arents not having the sense to supervise them well.
