White Baby Afghans

One of friends has a beautiful Victorian gift shop. It has so many lovely items in there I can spend hours and hours looking.

Once I was fortunate to be invited for a private party in her tea room. It was WONDERFUL! In there were the most enchanting decorations I had ever seen. And all fashioned with delicate china tea cups! One of the ones I remember most was the tea cup wreath. It was gorgeous! So, being a craft-er, I went home and tried to make one.

My first couple attempts were disasters but I finally figured it out. The end result was with worth all my failed attempts. I have made thousands since, each one being unique and lovely in its own way. I need to share the simple how-to with everybody. It's really quite easy and I couldn't think of a better way to display family heirlooms, even if they were chipped or cracked.

You will need:

- Large grapevine wreath

- Green florist wire

- 3-5 Small tea cups and saucers

- Various thin ribbons and gold braids, optional

- E-6000 glue Silk leaves, optional

- Silk flowers, your color choice

- Glue gun 2" (or wider) ribbon, fashioned into a bow for your wreath with long tails

First you need to glue the tea cups and saucers with E-6000 glue (if there's no matching saucer to the cup---don't worry you can still use it). Let dry.

Wire the cups/saucers into the grapevine wreath (insert the wire right through the cup handle!) at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, etc around the wreath. Then, tie the thin ribbon or braid on each cup handle with a bow, (optional) to "hide" the wire.

Glue flowers with the glue gun onto the wreath, filling in between the tea cups. Glue on silk leaves for an added touch.

Wire or glue bow at top, weaving tails though out the wreath, tea cups and florals. Spot glue in place.

P.S. As an added spark to you next tea party pour candle wax into tea cups or make a mini floral topiary in a tea cup.

7 weeks pregnant and mom keeps saying its gonna be a boy.. why would she keep saying that??

This is just so weird to me. I am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant, and my mother has been telling me its going to be a boy every since I told her I was pregnant. I asked her why she keeps saying that, and she just says because she feels it. I showed her an afghan I was working on for the baby ( yellow and white since I don't know the sex yet) and she said I could have made it blue because its a boy! LOL What do those of you who have been or are pregnant think about this??? Do you think she may really know something or what?? hehe Just curious for opinions and if anybody else experienced something similar! hehe

My mom said the same thing and guess what.... she was right lol

Patchwork Baby Blanket

I am knitting some squares for a patchwork. I read about crocheting them together, but have no idea how to!?

Kaffe fassett said in one of his books that every member of his family knits a square for a blanket when a new baby is born and then his sister crotchets them together. I really like the idea of this rather than sewing my knitted pieces together. Can anyone help?

Baby Minky

My hamsters weird behaviour?

I have a middle aged female hamster called minky. I had her since she was just a baby and she was the last female dwarf hamster lef tin the pet shop. She is always much more eager to get out of the cage than my mal hamster and when she in she will always bite me, especially if i let her on the soles of my hands. On top there is not enough skin to grip but she will always want to bite something with a nice soft texture including me. What can i do to make her stop this. Whats more she has very short legs and waddles very slowly like a penguin. I find this cute but it could be like a nerve problem or something i dont know. Her tails slightly slantly and she will always poop outside of the cage dropping little pellets everywhere. Is there something wrong with her?

Unfortunately, I have only ever owned and/or bred syrian hamsters. But this sounds pretty typical. Hamsters are still very much 'wild' animals, and even dogs (who have been living with us for centuries) are approx 99.9% wolf, whether it's a chihuahua or an Irish Wolfhound.

So your hammie just may not be as domesticated as some, as it were. But because she won't seem to do it hard, it's probably just a tester bite. This is when a hamster bites you to see who you are, and perhaps what you're made of. If you had just had apple, and she didn't know whether it was food or something nasty, she would no a little nibble. If it doesn't put up a fight and tastes good, she might bite you. To combat this, you just need to have a hand smelling of anything but food, (even meat, because hamsters will occasionally need this to enrich their diet!) and just do a little quick movement and a quick 'Oi!' to stop her. And don't put her away, because otherwise she will learn biting means 'home'! And, in other words, that means a comfy bed.

As for the pooing, it isn't her trying to do it. If it is, she's just trying to spread her territory! You can stop this by putting a little litter tray in each corner. They are very cheap, and eventually you might be able to get her litter trained.

And, finally, for the waddling, she may be over-weight. But hammies often walk like that. They're just clumsy little critters. =D

I have been keeping some of Alyssa's things that i think she may like to see when she is older.

I keep their going home outfits, first binky, photos, a blanket, their first teddy's or dolls and baby books in special boxes for each of them. I plan to give them to them when they have children of their own. It's sort of a tradtion in our family.
